Neuroplasticity and How to Rewire Your Subconscious Mind
Apr 19, 2023
How wonderful for the world of coaching and of course all who seek out coaching that it is possible to rewire your subconscious mind. New developments in neuroscience are making it easier and more effective to change behavior, thoughts, and feelings.
Neuroplasticity is a term used to describe the brain's ability to change and adapt in response to new experiences, learning, and environmental factors. It is the brain's ability to reorganize itself by forming new neural connections throughout life. This concept has revolutionized the field of neuroscience and has significant implications for coaching and therapy.
What I am so passionate about in my work is this very ability to rewire your subconscious mind. It is this ability to rewire in conjunction with neuroscientific tools such as hypnosis and newer revolutionary tools such as Brainspotting and Brain Working Recursive Therapy (BWRT) that such beautiful shifts with my clients have been possible. Faster results, on a deep subconscious level, so that change is lasting.
The brain is a complex organ that is responsible for controlling all of our bodily functions, thoughts, and emotions. It is made up of billions of neurons that communicate with each other through electrical and chemical signals. These neurons are connected by synapses, which are the points where two neurons meet and exchange information.
Neuroplasticity occurs when the brain's neurons and synapses change in response to new experiences. This can happen in several ways, including the growth of new neurons, the formation of new synapses, and the strengthening or weakening of existing synapses. These changes can occur in response to learning new skills, recovering from an injury, or adapting to changes in the environment.
The concept of neuroplasticity has significant implications for coaching and therapy. It means that the brain and subconscious mind can be rewired and that individuals can change their thoughts, behaviors, and emotions through intentional effort and practice and of course through brain-based coaching and using brain-based tools – Brainspotting, BWRT, and hypnosis to mention a few. This is possible because the brain is not fixed or static, but rather it is constantly changing and adapting.
Hypnosis, brain spotting, and BWRT are all techniques that can be used to rewire your subconscious mind because of neuroplasticity. Hypnosis is a state of focused attention and relaxation that allows individuals to access their subconscious mind. During hypnosis, individuals can reframe negative thoughts and beliefs, and replace them with positive ones. This is possible because the brain is more receptive to suggestions when in a relaxed state.
Brainspotting is a technique that involves identifying and processing traumatic memories and emotions. It works by identifying a specific eye position that is associated with the traumatic memory or emotion and then using this position to access and process the memory or emotion. This technique is based on the concept of neuroplasticity because it involves rewiring the brain's neural connections to reduce the impact of traumatic memories and emotions. Brainspotting is used not only to process traumatic events but also to expand one's positivity and self-worth, change motivation and develop one's future goals and dreams.
BWRT, or BrainWorking Recursive Therapy, is a technique that involves accessing the subconscious mind to reframe negative thoughts and beliefs and reframe perspective and reaction on past events. It works by identifying the worst moments or memories of negative thoughts and beliefs, and then using this information to reframe them in a positive, preferred way. This technique is based on how the brain lays down memories, how the brain uses past memory to decide on present actions and behavior, and that memories are not static, but change over time. BWRT involves rewiring the brain's neural connections to create new memories and new positive thought patterns and behavior that you choose, that are better suited to your current life, who you are today, and who you choose to be.
